ABOUT COORG

Coorg, also known as Kodagu, is a beautiful hill station located in the state of Karnataka, India. It is known for its picturesque landscapes, coffee plantations, lush greenery, and rich cultural heritage. While Coorg itself is a district, it consists of several towns that are worth exploring.
 

  1. Madikeri: Madikeri is the district headquarters of Coorg and is often considered the gateway to the region. It is located amidst the Western Ghats and offers breathtaking views of mist-covered hills, waterfalls, and sprawling coffee estates. Madikeri is known for its historical sites like Madikeri Fort, Raja's Seat (a beautiful sunset viewpoint), and Omkareshwara Temple.
     

  2. Kushalnagar: Kushalnagar is a small town situated on the banks of River Kaveri. It is known for its Tibetan settlement and the famous Namdroling Monastery (also known as the Golden Temple), which is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in India. Kushalnagar is also home to several coffee and spice plantations.
     

  3. Virajpet: Virajpet is a charming town located in the southern part of Coorg. It is known for its lush green forests, paddy fields, and coffee estates. Virajpet is a great place to experience the local culture and traditional Coorgi cuisine. The town is surrounded by hills and offers opportunities for trekking and nature walks.
     

  4. Somwarpet: Situated in the eastern part of Coorg, Somwarpet is known for its scenic beauty and coffee plantations. It is less crowded compared to other towns in Coorg, making it a perfect place for a peaceful retreat. Somwarpet is also famous for its waterfalls, such as Mallalli Falls and Chelavara Falls.
     

  5. Gonikoppal: Gonikoppal is a small town located on the border of Coorg and Kerala. It is known for its proximity to the Nagarhole National Park, which is a popular wildlife sanctuary and tiger reserve. Gonikoppal offers opportunities for wildlife safaris and is a great place for nature enthusiasts.
